YAM Tunku Zain Al-'Abidin

YAM Tunku Zain Al-'Abidin Ibni Tuanku Muhriz

Chairman

Educated at the Kuala Lumpur Alice Smith School and Marlborough College, Tunku Zain obtained his MSc in Comparative Politics at the London School of Economics & Political Science. He worked in the UK Houses of Parliament, then at the World Bank as a Public Sector Consultant. After returning to Malaysia, he joined UNDP and the KRA Group, and later became a Research Fellow at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, NUS. In 2006 he co‑founded the Malaysia Think Tank which evolved into IDEAS in 2010. He serves as INED of Allianz Malaysia Berhad and Allianz General Insurance Company (Malaysia) Berhad, and advises numerous educational and cultural organisations. He has maintained newspaper columns since 2008 and is involved in multiple foundations and societies.

Dato’ Sri Thong graduated from the London School of Economics and began his career in the financial services industry in 1979. From 1982 to 1988, he worked at Standard Chartered Merchant Bank Asia Limited in Singapore where he became Director of Corporate Finance. He is a Non‑Independent Non‑Executive Director of Inari Amertron Berhad and Ho Hup Construction Company Berhad.

Mah Xian‑Zhen

Non‑Independent Non‑Executive Director

Xian‑Zhen is an independent, broad‑minded thinker with a strong commitment to problem‑solving. She believes in investing in the right people and empowering them to excel. She holds a BA from Wellesley College and later took a Graduate Diploma in Law and the Bar Vocational Course in London. After time in legal practice, she joined the OMESTI Group in 2009 and was appointed to the Board in 2011, where she helps map the Group’s strategic direction.

A serial entrepreneur with a passion for all things automotive, Gerard began his career in 1992 as a sales agent for Riken Auto Sdn Bhd, becoming Director soon after. He later founded Optima Auto and subsequently expanded into property and other investments, including Red Zone Development and Montprimo Sdn Bhd (Executive Vice Chairman). He also serves as a NINED of Microlink Solutions Berhad. A former national junior squash champion, he captained Malaysia’s junior team in the East Asian Junior Squash Championships.

Robin Tan Wee Hoong

Mr Tan has 25+ years in capital markets, corporate advisory and finance across Malaysia and Singapore, including roles at RHB and Kay Hian HSBC (now UOB Kay Hian). Recognised among Malaysia’s top equity analysts by journals such as Asiamoney, he also advises PLCs on reverse take‑overs and strategy. He is currently an Executive Director of Landmarks Berhad and holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) from Deakin University, Australia.

With 30+ years of leadership experience, Syed Najib has driven corporate transformation across telecommunications, logistics and digitalization. He is currently Director of Nuage Solutions Sdn. Bhd., specialising in corporate transformation from inception to implementation.

  • Advisor, Asia Cargo Network (2022–2023) – Strategy and fundraising for expansion across Asia & the Middle East.
  • Group CEO, Pos Malaysia Berhad (2018–2021) – Led transformation & digitalization; secured major postal rate reform with net gains exceeding RM100m annually.
  • GCEO, Altel Holdings Sdn Bhd (2017–2018) – Restructured Altel Communications & Net2One; spearheaded National Digital TV via MYTV.
  • Senior roles, Celcom Axiata Berhad (2005–2017) – International business, regulatory, corporate sales; pivotal in Celcom’s turnaround and 34 consecutive growth quarters.
  • Country Head, REACH (2001–2005) – Led Malaysia & Indonesia operations; submarine cable & telecoms; restructured former PCCW operations; secured NSP licence.
  • AIMS Formis Berhad (1997–1999) – Consulted on transforming AIMS into a neutral co‑location facility (later acquired by TIME DotCom).
  • Esso Production Malaysia Inc. (1989–1996) – Functional Analyst; designed SAP OPEX/CAPEX systems for offshore operations.

He contributes to community initiatives via VIOBA and VIOBA Foundation. He holds a degree in Management Science (California State University) and an MBA in MIS (National University, Sacramento); attended the INSEAD‑Axiata General Management Programme.

Independent Non‑Executive Director

Appointed to the Board on 13 June 2025, Pauline brings 28 years of corporate advisory experience. A former Executive Director at Crowe Advisory Malaysia and Board Member of EXIM Bank Malaysia, her expertise spans corporate turnarounds, cross‑border M&A, IPOs, reverse takeovers, debt restructuring and fundraising. She holds an MBA (Finance) from the University of Hull and a Capital Markets Representative Services Licence from the Securities Commission Malaysia. She sits on the board of Boustead Holdings Berhad and several private companies in Singapore and Malaysia.

Dr. Mohamed Maaruf bin Vaheed

Maaruf holds a degree in Electrical Engineering and an MBA, with 25+ years across ICT. After early work in Web/Apps and DB in the U.S., he launched Asia’s first AltaVista mirror under Skali, then moved into project management. He joined Formis Network Services in 2001 as a BU head and became General Manager in 2012.
